ControllerMate v4.1 Released

Friday December 1, 2006

Today, OrderedBytes announces an update to ControllerMate.

New in ControllerMate v4.1 is the ability to import “Controller Type” files. These files contain detailed descriptions of specific devices, improving ControllerMate’s compatibility with these devices. This improvement can take the form of compatibility with non-standard controls that ControllerMate previously ignored, ignoring standard controls which don't really exist on the device, or simply using more descriptive names for the standard controls that the device does have. More information about these downloadable files can be found on ControllerMate’s Compatibility pages.

Along with the release of ControllerMate v4.1, several Controller Type files are available for devices from manufacturers such as Belkin, Logitech, and Microsoft. New Controller Type files will be made available as they are created. Users who are so inclined can assist with the creation of new downloadable Controller Type files by testing their devices which the ControllerMate Device Scanner.

ControllerMate v4.1 also contains updates to the following items:

  • [FIXED] Eliminated a hang which was caused by the Mouse Button building block when used in a specific configuration in combination with other building blocks.
  • [IMPROVED] The installer now allows the user to choose which ControllerMate drivers to install.
  • [IMPROVED] Reduced the ranking of the ControllerMate drivers to allow users to use other custom drivers.
  • [IMPROVED] Minor user interface modifications.

ControllerMate v4.1 is a recommended update for all users.

ControllerMate v4 Released

Friday, June 2, 2006

Today, OrderedBytes announces the fourth major release of ControllerMate. Version 4 contains a number of new features and capabilities that significantly expand the ability of Mac OS X users to customize the behavior of input devices.

ControllerMate v4 allows users to create Controller Configurations which modify the behavior of keyboard and mouse devices. These devices can be customized by disabling or redefining keyboard keys, disabling or modifying mouse buttons, or assigning a custom mouse acceleration curve. Controller Configurations are available to users running Mac OS X 10.4 and can be created for devices which do not use custom drivers.

ControllerMate v4 allows users to create virtual mouse, tablet, and joystick devices. To other applications, these devices appear like normal devices except that their behavior is determined entirely by ControllerMate programming. Virtual devices can be used to configure a joystick to act like a mouse or tablet, or to create a combination joystick device which contains inputs from several other devices.

Using new Controller Types, users can customize how ControllerMate displays controllers and their individual controls. Each controller and individual control can be hidden if unused, or be renamed if the default name is undesirable.

And, of course, ControllerMate v4 contains a number of new building blocks. 20 new building blocks allow users to add more complex logic, basic math, and flexible timing to ControllerMate programming.

In addition, number of small user interface changes have been made to make ControllerMate easier to use. For example, a list of controller buttons in the Palette window will now automatically scroll when one of the buttons is pressed. This make finding the correct building block as easy as pushing the corresponding button.

For more information about the new features and capabilities of ControllerMate v4, please visit the ControllerMate pages for more information.

Registered users of earlier versions of ControllerMate should have received an e-mail describing how to upgrade existing ControllerMate keys to version 4 through the beta program. This offer is still available through the beta introduction page.
